If replacing a Fleck 5600 or similar Backwash Only Valve,
We recommend one of the following, Fleck 5600 in standard or "L" power head with 12 day timer, see: https://www.softenerparts.com/Valve_Fleck_5600_12_Day_Backwash_Only_p/3405600000fb.htm or https://www.softenerparts.com/Valve_Fleck_5600_12D_BKW_120V_L_Style_p/3405600000fbl.htm OR for less cost, the Hankscraft Valves will do the same job and just 95% the same parts as Fleck 5600. 12 day Hankscraft Backwash Only, see: https://www.softenerparts.com/Valve_12_Day_Timer_Backwash_only_filter_HS_FTC_p/hs-ftc.htm and a Digital controlled valve by Hankscraft will run the entire process quicker, and cycle times are adjustable, see: https://www.softenerparts.com/Valve_Digital_Backwash_only_filter_HD_FTC_p/hd-ftc.htm ** OTHER Backwash Only Valves: If you need backwash rates exceeding 7 GPM ( larger tank or heavier media ), see Fleck 2510 https://www.softenerparts.com/Valve_Fleck_2510_12D_Backwash_120V_p/34025130340001s.htm or Fleck 2750 https://www.softenerparts.com/Valve_Fleck_2750_12_Day_Timer_Backwash_Only_p/3402750fb.htm Or Commercial Valve, Fleck 2850 https://www.softenerparts.com/Fleck_2850_Filter_Backwash_Only_with_12_Day_Time_p/3402850fb.htm ** Also, we sell Autotrol backwash only valves, Model 253 https://www.softenerparts.com/Valve_253_Autotrol_w_740_Back_Wash_Only_p/av253740bk.htm Model 263 https://www.softenerparts.com/Valve_742_Logix_Electronic_263_Backwash_p/av263742.htm ************************************************************************************** ** Additional INFORMATION to help you understand the valve's operation: *************************************************************************************** What is the difference between metered demand control and 12 day skipper wheel? * Metered.. Meter Demand Operation ** The Fleck 5600 version - 12 day works ( regenerates ) according to the "days" or "pins" you slide out ... no tracking of water used... just "runs" every set number of days. * See this Video showing the Time Clock and Metered Versions compared, https://youtu.be/-LmntgJyX4I
Difference between Softener Valve and Backwash only Valve =
Fleck 5600 Conversion Video
To regenerate the Fleck 5600 valve used on softener, without working timer motor. The following steps are involved in regeneration: Time to leave in each cycle Regen - none, valve does nothing in that position Rinse - none really, just move control knob until you hear the water flowing out the drain, and you'll be in Backwash cycle. Backwash - 10 minutes ( usually 15 minutes for Backwash only applications ). Brine rinse - 50 minutes ( and no less, as this is the most critical cycle ) ** Nothing happens if during this time on a Backwash Only Valve ( no brine piston or brine cam gear used ). Rapid rinse - 10 minutes ( usually 15 minutes for Backwash only applications ). Settle rinse - 5 minutes Brine refill - until it refills back to normal water level in brine tank ( 6 - 16 minutes ). ** Nothing happens if during this time on a Backwash Only Valve ( no brine piston or brine cam gear used ).
The 5600 Filter Valves using black top filter piston ( PN 60102-10 ), and if BACKWASH ONLY ( not connected to any type of "feeder" tank for potassium, salt, or chlorine) you would SKIP the Brine Rinse and Brine Refill.
Also the Backwash time would be increased to 15 minutes ( also the Rapid Rinse cycle to 15 minutes ).
