Katalox-Light
( Sulfide, Iron and Manganese Reduction)
Sold in 1/2 cu.ft. Box. ( enough for 7 x 44 tank ).
If 9 x 48 tank = 2 x 1/2 cu.ft = 1 cu.ft.
If 10 x 54 tank = 3 x 1/2 cu.ft. = 1.5 cu.ft.
Katalox-Light systems need a very simple backwash both in gravity filters as well as in pressure filters. Filters can be back washed without water pressure i.e. without using any pumps or compressors and there will be at least 80% less waste water compared to any conventional media like BIRM, Greensand, Greensand Plus, Filox and many other old technologies available in market. Only 1.5% of daily water flow is used for back washing. Katalox-Light media needs a backwash only once a week.
Katalox-Light is based on ZEOSORB ( a high purity natural Aluminosilicate microcrystalline mineral ) and with a special process impregnated and then coated with MnO2 that can filter particles as small as 2-3 microns. The coating acts as a protective agent for the impregnated substance. The Katalox-Light granules have an angular shape, rough high micro-porous surface to filter water down to 2-3 microns. The rough surface and very high porosity provide a huge surface area for efficient reduction of dirt, silt and suspended solids. Katalox-Light structure creates very less pressure loss, high service and flow rates and high bed loadings combined with lower back wash frequency.
Katalox-Light System for Arsenic, Iron, Manganese, H2S and other metal removal is a simple system that needs no potassium permanganate (KMnO4) or chlorine ( in low level situations, we agree, but seems to work best with a weekly chlorine feed / flush using 5 gallon feeder tank and a 30 to 1 chorine to water solution. So very little chlorine actually needed / used ).
Katalox-Light filters can be operated at the flow rate of 12 gmp/sq. ft (30 m/h) with a single pressure vessel and it requires only 10 minutes backwash time with the flow rate of 5.5 gpm/ sq. ft (13 m/h) = ( that would be 5 gpm on 9 x 48 tank and 7 gpm on 10 x 54 tank )
