It will not come apart,if the locking RING is in the right place.

1 ) The split ring is what holds the Adapter inside the NUT.

So, you slide NUT over the adapter.... and install the split ring on the adapter -- inside the NUT, to hold it together.

The "diagram" is not an accurate guide....
