168 Camshaft for Softener Applications. PN 1033036
And the same is true for the 163 Camshaft for Filter Applications 1033039
I have a softener with a 168 control head and the backwash segment on the camshaft has broken (one lug off). The unit is working well otherwise and I will be ordering a rebuild kit for it if I can find either a replacement camshaft or a replacement backwash segment?
From your website it shows that the 168 camshafts are obsolete but is there a newer replacement that will work?
* No.
What would you suggest?
* Physically "repair" your current camshaft, or you will need to replace entire valve ( Performa 268 ), because this size and type of camshaft is no longer available from any source that I am aware of.
Recommendation.....
You can / should drill small hole in end of camshaft, and insert a piece of metal such as a Nail or Screw ( maybe add some glue or epoxy ) to replace the plastic "tip" that broke off your old camshaft.
We have had several reports of customers making this type of repair.
See example below,
I started with a 1/16 of an inch drill bit, progressed to a 3/32, then to a 7/64, to a 1/8, then a 9/64 and finally a 5/32 drill bit.
At this time I threaded 11/16 deep hole a little more than halfway down with a blind And screwed in the machine screw and then cut the head off and cleaned the edge.
Probably stronger than the original.
