  4. 440 or 440i or 460TC - Cycles controlled by the Camshaft used
Question:
"My Neutralizer timer did not have "slow rinse", but my new 460TC/ap460tc.htm says it has this cycle.
Is the 460TC the correct unit to replace my 440i timer?"

* Yes, it is the correct Timer Replacement, because the cycles are controlled by your Camshaft and not the Timer.

The 400 series ( 440, 440i, 460i, 460TC ) are simply turning the Camshaft counter clockwise over a 100+ minutes of "regeneration" time.
The Flapper Valves Discs that actually open ( and for what Duration they open ) are controlled by the Camshaft lobes.
On "Backwash Only" valves, the "lobes" that would OPEN the # 1 Brine Valve Disc are removed,
so it never opens ( not for the Brine Rinse suction, nor the Brine Refill ).

So, you can IGNORE the "wording" on your new 460TC timer.

It's not going to do any Brine Rinse or Refill unless you were to change the Camshaft to one configured for "Softener" operation.

How to Regenerate your Autotrol 440 or 440i or 460TC when your timer assembly is broken.

Below is a list of the amount of time to leave the valve in each cycle ( stage )
of the Regeneration ( recharge / washing ) process of a Water Softener Application.
Note: Actual CYCLES ( valve disc openings ) are determine by the Camshaft.
Backwash only applications will NOT open the # 1 Brine Valve disc during the Brine Rinse or Brine Refll.
See Model 155 / 255 camshaft and valve disc sequence below.

Backwash = 10 minutes
Brine Draw / Slow Rinse = 50 minutes
( note: water will be sucked out of salt tank in 15 - 20 minutes, but you must continue the Slow Rinse for the full 50 minutes )
Purge / Fast Rinse = 10 minutes
Brine Refill = 10 - 15 minutes ( until 3 - 4 gallons added back to salt tank ).

And then ( and only then ) back in service ( treated water ).
And Do NOT use water in the house while Regenerating.

* Look at the following photo, and diagrams.

440 on Left with face plate that is held on by 3 screws,
Next to it is the 440i with gray snap on case.

Note that 440i refers to the style of case, and is made in 12 volt version and the 120 volt version = 440iHV
