Trouble-Shooting Autotrol Model 155

	PROBLEM		POSSIBLE CAUSE		CORRECTION
1.	Control will not regenerate automatically	A.	Electric cord unplugged.	A.	Connect to power.

2.	Control regenerates at wrong time of day.	A.	Timer set incorrectly. ( Normal regeneration time is 2 a.m. when the clock is set to the actual time of day )	A.	Set clock to the correct current time of day. ( small pointer on tripper arm gear ).
3.	Control will not draw brine	A.	Low water pressure ( less than 20 psi )	A.	Set pump to maintain 20 psi. Replace any pre-filters installed ahead of softener.
		B.	Restricted drain line	B.	Change drain to remove restriction.
		C.	Injector clogged	C.	Clean injector and screen.
		D.	Injector defective ( Could be worn out or damaged if used on chlorinated water source )	D.	Replace injector and cap
		E.	Valve disc #2 and/or #3 not closing properly. ( Could be worn out or damaged if used on chlorinated water source )	E.	Remove foreign matter from disc and check disc for closing by pushing in on stem. Replace valve set ( # 155A152 ) if needed.
		F.	Air check prematurely closing	F.	Check for air leaks on air check, brine tubing, and all connections to brine pick up tube.
4.	Brine tank overflow	A.	Brine valve disc # 1 being held open	A.	Manually operate valve stem to flush away obstruction.
		B.	Uncontrolled brine refill flow rate	B.	Remove variable salt controller to clean it and ball ( Items 1F and 4F ). Replace 1F if needed.
		C.	Valve disc # 2 not closed during brine draw, causing brine refill.	C.	Flush out foreign matter holding disc open by manually operating valve stem. ( also see 3. E. above )
		D.	Air leak in brine line to air check.	D.	Check all connections in brine line for leaks. All fittings must be air tight and look for cracks on old brine tubing.

From experience in the field, we have found that if the unit fails to regenerate, you will have either a dead timer motor, a stripped gear ( or two ), or a broken post that holds a gear in the 440 Timer Housing. Problems related to improper, or incomplete regeneration are due to: air leaks in the brine tubing connections to brine pick up tube, clogged drain lines, valve discs that have worn out ( after 10 years ) or valve discs ( and all internal rubber components ) being damaged when used on a chlorinated water source.
